How To Add A Splash Of Whimsy To Your Labor

S.P.L.A.T. Your Way to a Better Birth

(a fun little game that accidentally builds your perfect labor support plan)

Remember playing MASH as kids?

We’re bringing that energy into birth prep.

Because “just going with the flow” is not a real plan.
And you deserve to feel supported in a way that actually makes sense for you.

So instead, we’re going to SPLAT your labor plan together using your love languages as a guide.

What is S.P.L.A.T.?

SPLAT is my new fangled labor prep game based on the 5 love languages.
Because how you feel loved is usually how you feel safest and most supported in labor too.

Each letter stands for a category:

  • S = Snuggles (Physical Touch)

  • P = Presents (Gifts)

  • L = Language (Words of Affirmation)

  • A = Acts of Service

  • T = Time (Quality Time)

Step 1: Make Your Game Board

Grab a piece of paper.

Draw 5 columns and label them:

S | P | L | A | T

Now you’re going to fill each column with options that feel good to you.

Step 2: Fill in Your Options

Think about what would actually support you during labor. And if you need more details on the 5 love languages to help you plan your gameboard click here.

Here are some ideas to get you started.

S Snuggles

What kind of physical touch feels grounding or comforting?

  • Hand holding

  • Counter pressure

  • Massage

  • Dancing together

P Presents

Little comforts and items that make you feel cared for

  • Flowers

  • Box of candy

  • Earrings

  • New PJ set

L Language

What do you want to hear when things get intense?

  • “You’re doing amazing”

  • “You’re so beautiful”

  • “I love you”

  • “You’re a powerhouse”

A Acts of Service

What can someone do for you so you don’t have to think?

  • Bring water

  • Fill the bathtub

  • Make a snack plate

  • Cool washcloths

T Time

How do you want people to be with you?

  • Read a story

  • Do the miles circuit with me

  • Bath time together

  • Watch a movie

Step 3: The chaotic swirl

At the bottom of your page, write SPLAT.

Now draw a big spiral until you feel like stopping.

Start counting through your options and eliminate one each time you count.

Yes just like MASH.

Keep going until you have one option left in each category.

Step 4: Your labor support plan

Whatever is left is your core support style.

This becomes your:

  • partner cheat sheet

  • doula guidance

  • birth room vibe

  • simple plan when things feel intense

Whimsy but effective

Because in labor it’s fun to have a long list of ideas but you need your support people to be able to take action while you stay in laborland.

You need a few things that actually help you feel safe, supported, and grounded and this is just a fun way to figure out what those things will be without overthinking it.

Real talk

Your preferences can and likely will change as your labor intensifies and hormones shift. You can play the gameboard over and over. Try new things and find your favorites before moving on with the next surge.

I’m so excited for you and would love to see your game boards!

Tag me on ig so I can see what prezzies you’re getting orrr even your best words of affirmation.
